Getting through a first SOC 2 audit used to mean months of spreadsheets, folders and chasing colleagues for evidence. Compliance automation platforms like Vanta and Drata changed that: they connect to your cloud, identity provider, source control and HR systems, collect control evidence automatically, and monitor your controls continuously between audits.This course teaches the compliance automation workflow itself, and shows you both Vanta and Drata as worked examples at every major step, so your skills transfer to either platform (or to alternatives such as Secureframe and Scytale).
We start with SOC 2 in plain English: the AICPA Trust Services Criteria, why the Security common criteria are mandatory while Availability, Confidentiality, Processing Integrity and Privacy are optional add-ons, the difference between a Type I and a Type II report, and how the observation window shapes your timeline. Then you scope your system boundary, choose a framework and control set, invite owners, and learn to read your readiness score and gaps.From there it is hands-on: connecting cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP), identity (Okta, Microsoft Entra ID), source control, HR and MDM integrations; handling manual evidence and custom controls; generating, approving and rolling out policies; running security awareness training, risk assessments and vendor reviews; reading failing tests and remediating them; and preparing the evidence package your auditor will actually ask for.
We finish with the auditor relationship and the auditor portal, publishing a Trust Center and using it to move deals forward, applying the platforms' AI agents with human review, and mapping one set of controls across ISO 27001, HIPAA and PCI DSS requirements.A note of honesty runs through the whole course: automation covers a large share of the work, mainly evidence collection and continuous monitoring, but writing and approving policies, assessing risk, fixing broken controls, training people and managing the auditor relationship stay human work. The platform does not perform the audit either, since an independent CPA firm issues the SOC 2 report, and reports from either platform are accepted by any AICPA-certified auditor.
The course stays vendor-neutral. It compares the two platforms fairly, describes pricing models rather than numbers, and teaches workflows rather than button positions, because product interfaces change. able worksheets, checklists and templates accompany the sections so you can apply each step to your own audit.
