In order to analyze a variety of skin tones and unique facial structures, one can use a monochromatic colour scheme consisting of one colour with its tints and shades. The subtle tonal changes can create facial differences that won't be overpowered by other methods and theories - particularly when using additional colours. As a reference, we will use a black and white photo image of a model in the frontal view. When acquiring knowledge about the proportions of a human face, you will also learn how to render features based on the source of light. Light can play a significant part in how your painting is perceived. After completion of this course, you will be asked to complete two additional portraits
Painting a monochromatic portrait from a profile (side view).
Painting a monochromatic portrait from a 3/4 view. This will test your newly acquired knowledge.
This course will serve as a springboard into a deeper exploration of the art of portraiture with a further expansion into the colours palette used. Recommended for beginners and intermediate.
