Prepositions are short words (in, on, at) that stand in front of nouns (and sometimes gerund verbs) and allow the listener to understand the relation of something to something else. They also let you know when something happened and give the listener an idea of the context of the sentence. A very important area of English that is often ignored, however easily understood with some practice.
