She responded to the nudes and pastoral scenes of Cézanne, Gauguin, Picasso, and Matisse with themes of miscarriage and motherhood. She exhibited with her partner, Duncan Grant, and comparisons between their parallel careers highlight the gender disparities that shaped her life and work.
