This book is Chesterton's attempt at drafting such a "popular" history of England, focusing on those ideas, legends, and events that truly were significant and important from the people's perspective -- to tell the story of his nation while keeping in mind that "thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder."
