When a notoriously curmudgeonly Laird is found dead on the land he determinedly protected from intrusion, nobody is surprised. Rumour has it that someone murdered him because of a very sinister secret he was protecting. With no idea what that secret might be the Star Elite are sent to investigate.
Unfortunately, the openly hostile friends and relations emerging out of the mire to claim their inheritance presents Angus and his colleagues in the Star Elite with considerable problems. Not only do they have issues protecting people who openly hate each other but they have to identify a killer hidden amongst the bickering group, preferably before he, or she, claims another life. The one person whom Angus suspects is truly innocent is Catriona but when the guests begin to die, he wonders what secrets she is keeping from him, especially when it begins to look as if she has the most to gain from the murders.
