This book is a counterpoint to the idea of portfolio diversification and long-term investments (buy and hold). At the end of the day, the challenge we all face is how to protect the real value of our equity over time. For you who are looking for ways to improve your performance, it is essential to escape common sense. That is why it is necessary to use the experience accumulated by others while working to increase your own. In general, the smaller the experience, the greater the diversification.
Throughout this book we will see that a successful portfolio is made up of many small mistakes and a few big successes. Your differential will reside in its ability to quickly undo losses and let good positions develop. There will be a high level of risk involved, however, if nothing is risked there is nothing to be gained. You will soon realize that the greatest protection there is in the market is the ability to quickly move capital at low cost.
At the same time, we will also see the need to understand the cognitive biases that we are all subject to. In many situations we can be blind to the obvious. We will know some principles in behavioral finance that help us to improve our performance as a financial speculator.
Do you know the difference between a speculator and an investor? Find out in detail throughout this book, which offers an alternative to orthodox investment thinking.
