Zero-Trust Science: A New Architecture for Scientific Closure (New Sciences Book ) by Rogério Figurelli
English | April 20, 2026 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B0GX2XWJ9Q | 151 pages | EPUB | 1.34 Mb
Zero-Trust Science: A New Architecture for Scientific Closure argues that science is not losing value, but entering a new closure regime.

In a world shaped by software stacks, model pipelines, mutable benchmarks, proof artifacts, and technical infrastructures, the traditional public forms of scientific trust no longer travel as cleanly as they once did. The central problem is no longer only whether a claim sounds rigorous where it was born, but whether it can remain itself while moving across teams, tools, institutions, and time.
The book places this argument inside a long historical arc. Scientific journals, standardized papers, and formal peer review were not timeless givens, but layered solutions to earlier problems of circulation, legibility, and communal scrutiny. Seen this way, zero-trust science is not a rebellion against the scientific tradition. It is a continuation of one of its deepest patterns: whenever the dominant objects of science change, science must redesign the public interface through which claims become trustworthy.
This proposal does not call for the end of peer review, nor for the erosion of expertise. Instead, it argues that peer review should be preserved by being re-scoped more honestly.
Human judgment remains essential for interpretation, criticism, and significance. But in domains where claims depend on complex technical routes, hidden preprocessing layers, computational scaffolds, and artifact-sensitive verification, social review alone is no longer enough. It must be joined by receipts, proof contracts, verifier-facing artifacts, and clearer promotion rules.
A distinctive contribution of the book is its defense of richer public states between success and failure. It rejects the old binary in which a result must appear either fully closed or not worth serious inheritance. Instead, it introduces a more disciplined grammar of modern science: restricted claims, typed non-closure, corridor-bound results, and especially HOLD as a legitimate scientific output. HOLD is not embarrassment or defeat. It is a truthful publication state for results that contain real structure and real progress while still lacking part of the burden required for broader transport.
The book also argues that stronger closure can make science more public without making it anti-expert. When claims carry clearer receipts, restrictions, and proof burdens, a wider range of competent actors can inspect, challenge, reproduce, and responsibly extend them without depending entirely on invisible guild inheritance. Zero-trust science is therefore not anti-science, anti-peer-review, or anti-specialist. It is anti-opacity. Its aim is to make trust more exact about what it is trusting.
At its core, this is a book about rebuilding scientific legitimacy for an age of computational dependence and high-consequence transport. It distinguishes accepted claims from transportable claims, local correctness from portable correctness, and social closure from protocol closure.
Its constructive wager is simple but far-reaching: if modern science wants to remain worthy of trust, it must learn to make closure more legible, more bounded, and more faithfully attached to the real routes through which knowledge now moves.
